Descartes dijo «pienso, luego existo». Morin completa: pienso porque, antes, algo en mí computa. Descartes said "I think, therefore I am". Morin completes it: I think because, before, something in me computes.

La filosofía del sujeto puso la consciencia como lo primero. Morin la «pone sobre los pies»: antes del «pienso» consciente hay una autocomputación inconsciente que realiza las distinciones y unificaciones. Por eso propone completar el cogito ergo sum en un cogito ergo computo ergo sum. La consciencia emerge de la cogitación de esa computación. The philosophy of the subject placed consciousness first. Morin puts it "on its feet": before the conscious "I think" there is an unconscious self-computation performing distinctions and unifications. So he proposes completing cogito ergo sum into cogito ergo computo ergo sum. Consciousness emerges from the cogitation of that computation.

And the astonishing part: "the operations of computation remain unconscious to the conscious Self, on whom the cogito imposes itself". We think without seeing the computation that makes us think. And the "I think" is already reflexive — an "I think that I think" — a loop that generates self-consciousness.

"Consciousness undergoes a separation wherever it establishes a communication." To know myself, I split in two: a self that observes and a self observed. That split brings torments — "the Moi is the inexorable duality" — but it also opens the possibility of self-knowledge.

La consciencia, dice Morin, es «parpadeante, epifenoménica»: no está siempre encendida. You speak fluently without "calculating" grammar: a subterranean computation builds each sentence, and only the meaning reaches your consciousness. You compute without seeing it — exactly Morin's point: computation stays unconscious, the cogito imposes itself.

La neurociencia confirma que casi todo el procesamiento mental es inconsciente; la consciencia es una franja mínima. Morin anticipated it decades earlier: a flickering consciousness atop an ocean of computation we never see.

The instant you catch yourself thinking and watch yourself do it: you split into the one who thinks and the one who observes thinking. That reflexive loop is consciousness being born — and at once the crack in the "I", which never fully coincides with itself.

To cogitate is more than to compute: it adds language, reflection, abstraction. It emerges from computation without reducing to it. Saying "it's all computation" betrays Morin as much as denying the computation beneath thinking.

Thinking is something a living being does.

Remarkably: computation stays unconscious, while the cogito imposes itself on us as self-evidence.

Si bajo el «pienso» hay un cómputo que no controlo, ¿soy realmente dueño de mi pensamiento? Morin no disuelve al sujeto — lo arraiga: el sujeto es real, pero no transparente a sí mismo. Y si la consciencia es parpadeante y puede engañarse, queda abierta la pregunta más dura: ¿y si me equivoco justo donde más seguro me siento? Es la puerta a las cegueras. If beneath the "I think" there's a computation I don't control, am I really the owner of my thought? Morin doesn't dissolve the subject — he roots it: the subject is real, but not transparent to itself. And if consciousness flickers and can deceive itself, the harshest question stays open: what if I err right where I feel surest? It's the doorway to the blindnesses.
